This webinar series provided an online platform for live and recorded webinars and enabled library directors and library staff to learn, share, and ask questions from a privacy legal expert about the new Privacy Guidelines for Public Libraries and how the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) applies to B.C.’s public libraries. Please note: The most recent version (2023) of the Privacy Guidelines for Public Libraries is available on the Northwest Library Federation (nwlf.ca) website.
The learning outcomes of this webinar series included:
- An overview of public libraries’ privacy obligations within the context of the FOIPPA.
- An understanding of privacy implications that may arise in library operations.
- An awareness of the resources available to assist public libraries with the development/update of their privacy policies.
- An understanding of what public libraries need to communicate privacy expectations to staff and patrons.

This specialized webinar supported libraries to manage their operations, special projects, services, etc. that handles personal information beyond day-to-day functions.
