Dementia and Public Library Service
Thursday October 19 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
The BC library federations are pleased to offer the upcoming Zoom webinar, Dementia and Public Library Services: How Well Are We Prepared?
It is free for BC library employees and Trustees.
According to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, 597,000 people in Canada were living with dementia in 2020, a number that is predicted to rise to almost a million by 2030. Find out how you can best prepare your library as an essential resource for individuals experiencing dementia and the caregiver community.
Join librarian, author and educator Dr. Timothy J. Dickey as he provides an overview of dementia, and shares tips and best practices for strengthening services and creating a more dementia-friendly library environment. Staff and trustee awareness supports public libraries as they create accessible library services.
Timothy Dickey is an Adult Services Librarian with the Columbus (OH) Metropolitan Library. His book Library Dementia Services: How to Meet the Needs of the Alzheimer Community was published in 2020. Dr. Dickey is also the 2022 recipient of the ALA-RUSA Margaret E. Monroe Award for Library Adult Services, recognizing his work with the dementia community, and as a library science educator. He is presented here by BC’s library federations, with thanks to the Public Libraries Branch, Ministry of Municipal Affairs through the Covid Recovery Grant.
